Downtown Eastside Neighbourhood House
Media Guidelines
For everyone with a recording device, including:
- community members
- social media
- mainstream media
The Downtown Eastside Neighbourhood House [DTES NH], is a grassroots, secular organization which offers community inspired programming to DTES residents of all ages and ancestries – from infants to elders. Approximately 8,000 residents attend our programs annually and the vast majority are underhoused, others homeless.
The sidewalks of the DTES are ‘public property’ as are Pigeon Park, CRAB Park and Oppenheimer Park. They are also – and more importantly – the social spaces of our neighbours who don’t have adequate housing.
We therefore ask you to please:
- Have the name of your media outlet clearly visible on your clothing;
- Refrain from arbitrarily filming/recording people;
- Obtain written permission from everyone who does want to be recorded/filmed;
- Inform DTES residents where your film/recording will appear and for what purposes;
- Inform people in explicit detail if what you record will be uploaded to the web;
- Give individuals your contact information.
The Downtown Eastside Neighbourhood House acknowledges & honours the fact that our community lies within the Traditional Territory of the Coast Salish people.
