The DTES NH has a storefront life which consists of a variety of programs over the years, including Chinese Elders Drop In, World of Smoothies, Community Kitchens, Painting, Textile Arts, Gardening, HomeGround Workshops, Emergency Preparedness, free Haircuts, Right to Food initiatives, Media Literacy, Prisoners Rights, Grand/Parent-Tot Drop In, Movies as Popular Culture, Fiscal Fitness, Safety Workshops for people working in the sex trade, Focus: Your Health, Your Environment and a Family Drop In among others. On DTES sidewalks we offer the Banana Beat and Roving Community Kitchen. In 2009 we began an Architectural Feasibility Study [which envisions the future 20,000 sq ft permanent DTES NH in the heart of the DTES], thanks to the pro bono collaboration of Busby, Perkins and Will. We partner in multiple community wide events such as the DTES Alley Health Fair and the annual Women’s Memorial March which honours the missing and murdered women of the Downtown Eastside.
